蜜桔直播鈥檚 Poetry Slam is returning after a two-year absence. Slamming begins
at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, in the lobby of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities
Complex. The event is free and open to everyone, both as spectators and as performers.
鈥淪lam Poetry is different than just reading a poem,鈥 Sherri Jacobs, associate professor
of English, said. 鈥淚t takes poetry to another level and provides an opportunity to
perform dramatically and bring the poem to life.鈥
The Poetry Slam is sponsored by Word Up, the college鈥檚 English club. Gift cards will
be awarded for first, second and third place. One performer will win the prized black
beret bearing the Word Up logo. The event has a coffeehouse atmosphere.
鈥淭his event has been popular in the past with students and also with community members.
People want to be involved in the contest and want to see other perform,鈥 Jacobs said.
Those wanting to perform should arrive at 5:30 p.m. to register. Poems and performances
are judged on originality, audience engagement and performance.
