Cyber Defense, Digital Forensics Training Offered This Fall

New AAS Degree Offers Cyber Defense Training

     Beginning this fall, 蜜桔直播 students will be able to complete an associate of applied science degree in cyber defense, learning the foundational skills needed to enter one of the fastest growing areas of computer information technology. 
     Graduates will be prepared to protect data, software, and equipment by detecting and removing both internal and external threats.
     鈥淐ybersecurity is a national priority and an issue for all industries,鈥� said Lois Blais, head of computer information technology and associate professor of computer and information technology. 鈥淪kills learned in this program will give our students access to high-paying, in-demand careers.鈥�
In this two-year program, students may earn the CompTIA A+ and the CISCO Certified Support Technician certifications with the possibility of others being added.
     Classes in networking, programming, cloud computing and the Linus operating system are taken during the first year. Second year classes focus on database concepts, network security, information assurance, and digital forensics. Students are required to complete a capstone project engaging a real-world cyber threat.
     鈥淒igital forensics is a new class that combines critical thinking with hands-on training,鈥� Blais said. 鈥淪tudents learn what computer actions are classified as crimes, how to preserve evidence and how to work with law enforcement.鈥�
     Students also learn how to spot weaknesses in a system before outside individuals can take advantage of those.
     鈥淭his field is great for those who enjoy working with technology and enjoy problem solving,鈥� Blais said. 鈥淭his environment is ever changing with new threats developing daily. So, a commitment to lifelong learning is a must for those entering the field.鈥�
     This degree program qualifies for financial aid and may be taken tuition-free through Tennessee Promise for recent high school graduates and Tennessee Reconnect for adults 23 and older who do not have a degree.
