Lori Campbell Devoted Career to College

Dr. Lori Campbell devoted her career to 蜜桔直播, beginning as a counselor in 1990 and retiring as a professor of education in 2025. During that time, she served as an assistant professor and department head, the college鈥檚 general education officer, dean of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and vice president of academic affairs.

Now, she is also professor emerita. This is the highest honor the college bestows on faculty.

鈥淚 am very humbled, knowing that this process started in the faculty senate,鈥 Campbell said. 鈥淚 believe 蜜桔直播 faculty members create the caring atmosphere that is evident across all of the college鈥檚 campuses.鈥

Campbell may be best known for a role that didn鈥檛 have a title. She helped lead the college into the digital age, transforming a classroom-only learning environment into a nationally recognized leader in innovative learning methods.

鈥淚 wanted to engage students in new ways,鈥 Campbell said. 鈥淚 looked around and saw how students were always using mobile devices like phones and tablets. I thought students would be more engaged if their reading and homework could be completed on those devices.鈥

Under her leadership, 蜜桔直播 became one of the first colleges named an Apple Distinguished College. The program recognized institutions with a clear vision for using technology to support student success. Campbell was one of the first administrators to earn the Apple Distinguished Educator title.

As vice president, Campbell led the effort to add new degree programs, including occupational therapy assistant, digital media, surgical technician, and musical theatre. As campuses grew, classes expanded, eventually leading the college to offer nursing on three campuses. Campbell led new programs through the accreditation process and several programs through the reaccreditation process.

Campbell鈥檚 passion was teaching, and she chose to return to the classroom full-time for five years prior to her 2025 retirement.

鈥淭eaching has always been my first love. You have the biggest impact on the lives of students when you teach. And, as a professor of education, I knew each of my students would go on to impact their students for 20 or 30 years,鈥 Campbell said.

鈥淓ducation majors love school and love being in the classroom,鈥 Campbell said. 鈥淥ne of the most rewarding aspects of my career was knowing that each student would touch the lives of many children.鈥
